Abreviations What is the Point If no one Knows WTH They Mean.

Abbreviations have started to really really annoy me. It is because they seem to have overtaken normal speech but  still require an explanation for any one to understand. This of course defeats the purpose of abbreviating anything in the first place. It is particularly noticeable on TV/& Radio news,you know the type of thing "The IOC (International Olympic Committee said today" or  "The CBI (Confederation of British Industry) have released figures" Now I admit some require no explanation like FBI, CIA,  etc.  but as for almost everything else they should simply use the full description or name and let that be it.  You will also notice people using workplace abbreviations to make them look smarter than they really are however, if you are lucky or quick  you can dream  up something ridiculous to fit their stupid abbreviation and thus force them to explain fully what the abbreviation means. If you are confused by all of this this site can help  in the meantime shun the abbreviators , you know it makes sense.  By the way my personal  most annoying one is BOGOF  from the retail sector but they are every where. If you know any real unusual or stupid ones please share them with us and tell us where you found them.   

What Do You Think About ...Meditation On The NHS?

I confess I know little or nothing about alternative medicines other than that my opinion has always been it seems more like common sense than mysticism.

I am all for people having the freedom to choose treatments and therapies but with the NHS cutting services allover the country, and when it is a post code lottery for some people to get life saving drugs, I must question if I really want my money being spent on "meditation".  They say it will save money long term for depressive/mental illness as people can be treated in groups. At 300 pounds per patient who knows, I just wonder how much the teach yourself meditation book costs? 

Now there is something to think about  

The Great Xmas Dinner Mystery? What Could Possibly Go Wrong.?

     We have become obsessed with cookery programs and follow all the tv chefs and we even try some of the recipes. Quite successfully I might add. This week we have been enthralled by Jamie's Xmas, Delia's Xmas,  Nigella's Xmas and,Xmas at River Cottage. You always pick up some good tips in these shows and I always think there is something to gain from any professional. Then it struck me,we have a cookery book from the 60's it has become a family friend.Looking through it it gives a detailed Xmas Dinner recipe not a million miles removed from....... all of the recent  T.V. chefs  recipes for the big feast.

  I mean if we do not know how to cook turkey by now we have a real problem. This makes me ponder exactly why we are all so hooked on these shows the basic methods are the same with a minor addition here or there. I think it is the simple fact that we can see them doing it in detail that makes it compulsive viewing.  It also makes you hungry and reach for the snacks.   

Maybe that';s what has us hooked?  Either way we love it all. Merry Xmas.    

Eduardo Ban Should be the Start of a Purge to Clean Up Football.

Eduardo cheated plain and simple and as such deserves to be punished. What about Rooney? What about the fake blood rugby incident?  It is way past overdue that sports authorities started to take action on the cheats. It is so refreshing to see them exposed and hopefully shamed by their own actions. Managers should also realise that it is wrong to defend the cheats as this only makes them look like they actually condone this with cries of "witch hunt" and "disgrace".They seem to forget that the video evidence is judge and jury and we can all see who the cheats are. All genuine sports fans will applaud this type of action that exposes cheats who set out to gain unfair advantage by deception.  

Lets have lots more of this discipline across all sports maybe then we can get back to letting kids see that cheats do not win. 

Internet Is 20 Years Old. So what's the verdict?

                                   The Internet as we know it became 20 years old on Friday the 13th ironically.

The big question seems to be has it made our lives better or worse. Some say it is killing our culture and damaging our kids. They said the same about books, TV and arcade games not so long ago.  You see, we can miss use and abuse almost any thing,it's really down to personal responsibility and, the net is no different.       I am sure it has changes lives simply by giving people access to information they may otherwise not acquire. I mean how deprived would you feel if the web was shut down tomorrow on cultural or child protection laws.

Unthinkable?  you tell me ?
