Teachers are among the public sector workers who could soon be enjoying a pay freeze like most of their fellow workers in the private sector. So along with firemen, nurses, and doctors they will share some of the pain of the economic mess we find ourselves in thanks to the bankers. As usual there will be no corresponding freeze on fuel prices council tax or national insurance which would help almost everyone. Already there are howls of protest and calls for strike action. So while lots of workers get pay cuts or job losses the public sector expect to be protected from all of this.Seems to me that if the boat needs bailing out we should all take a bucket.
The public sector have enjoyed better pay ,conditions, pensions and job security for many years and good luck to them but,if they continue to moan about their lot I can see that old familiar rift opening up where workers start to fall out with each other and,"divided we fall" becomes reality.
Is this not precisely what brought the unions to their knees under Thatcher?
Here we go again.
